Safe Energy Ireland was appointed by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) as the Electrical Safety Supervisory Body (ESSB) for the period January 2023 to December 2028 under a five year licence. From January 2016 to December 2022 The Register of Electrical Contractors of Ireland (RECI) was appointed as the Electrical Safety Supervisory Body (ESSB). The ESSB will continue to run under the name Safe Electric.
Safe Energy Ireland views your right to privacy under Data Protection legislation very seriously. Any personal information will be processed using the highest standards of security and confidentiality, strictly in accordance with the Data Protection Acts. Please take a few moments to read the Data Protection Notice below in order that you understand your rights.
In discharging its functions, Safe Energy Ireland collects and keeps personal data (hereinafter “Data”) from Electrical Contractors and Consumers. This Data is used to deal with the registration requirements relating to matters such as contractors’ qualifications, insurance, inspections, annual subscriptions and Completion certificates. Please note that Safe Energy Ireland may keep the Data for a reasonable time after the Electrical Contractor has been de-registered, but will not keep it any longer than is necessary and/or as required by law, nor shall it use the Data for any purpose, other than stated above.
The Register is currently publicly available on the Safe Electric website, and assists Consumers in their search for names and contact details of Electrical Contractors.
Safe Energy Ireland also collects Data relating to Consumers in the completion of various forms such as Completion Certificates, Notifications of Hazards, Complaints, Change of Contractor Requests, reporting of illegal electrical work or from any other requests relating to works undertaken by Electrical Contractors, incident investigations or general electrical safety. This Data will not be kept any longer than is necessary and/or as required by law.
Safe Energy Ireland may disclose your Data to the Commission for Energy Regulation, ESB Networks and to third parties who act on behalf of Safe Energy Ireland, in connection with the activities referred to above. Such third parties are only permitted to use your Data as instructed by Safe Energy Ireland. They are also required to keep your Data safe and secure.
You have a right to copies of your Data and to have any inaccuracies corrected. Requests should be made in writing to the CRU at The Exchange, Belgard Square North, Tallaght, Dublin 24.
