Due to the escalating Covid-19 situation which has created a third wave of infections, the Taoiseach Michael Martin announced the re-introduction of movement restrictions and has decided to stop the majority of construction activity, and limit electrical and gas services / repairs work to emergency call-outs only. As a minimum these restrictions will apply until the end of January. There are some exceptions for social housing and critical Government projects.
This will greatly impact the operation of some Registered Electrical Contractors and most will not be able to carry out work for at least the rest of the month of January. Please note that emergency electrical works can still be undertaken. Please ensure that in order to protect your staff and customers, you need to follow all government and HSA guidelines while carrying out this emergency work.
During the current restrictions Safe Electric have scaled back their Inspection operation and will only be carrying out inspections in emergency situations.

Qualified Certifier (QC) Numbers
Extensions will be applied to the expiry date of any QC numbers expiring while the current restrictions are in force. To apply for an extension you can email reciinfo@reci.ie. Please include details or receipts for any courses which may have been cancelled or booked at a future date.
Insurance updates
We understand this is a difficult time for many and we are receiving some queries in relation to insurance cover. It is a requirement under the CRU Criteria Document that each Registered Electrical Contractor (RECs) maintains insurance cover. In order to ensure there are no delays to purchasing or validating completion certificates,
RECs whose insurance expires during the restriction period need to confirm that the policy has been renewed and provide a completed R44 form. This form should be emailed to insurance@reci.ie
